AROUND DARG WOOD
Our setting in The Shire is a mix of farmland, woodland and heather moorland with rolling hills, ancient tracks, wild rivers and an abundance of wildlife.
We are lucky to be far from light pollution and on clear nights, the night sky is spectacular, with occasional glimpses of the Aurora Borealis for the luckiest guests. Kielder observatory is a popular destination for those looking to learn more about the night sky.
Beautiful walking and cycling routes for all abilities are available from the doorstep with a network of footpaths and bridleways ready to take you as far as your sense of adventure allows.
The Traveller's Rest pub at Slaley or the Dipton Mill Inn (with attached Hexhamshire Brewery) provide perfect walking destinations. Or, if you're feeling energetic, a walk or cycle over the fell to the excellent Lord Crewe arms in Blanchland is a great way to see the beautiful local area.
Darg Wood is located 6 miles from Hexham; a bustling market town with shops, restaurants and transport links beyond. Likewise nearby Corbridge is a popular destination for visitors. The medieval village of Blanchland is well worth a visit and nearby Derwent reservoir offers fishing and waterside walks and has an attached sailing club. Nearby Slaley Hall offers golf, adventure activities and spa, and the Northumberland National Park and Hadrian's Wall are only a short drive away. Mountain biking trail centres at Hamsterley, kielder and Chopwell woods are within easy reach. Or if you want to range a bit further, the stunning Northumberland coast is within reach by car, as are the county's 70+ castles and other heritage sites.
